The CIAO! Ark

The Ark - Getting Set to Sail in June 2010!

imageChildren in the participating schools will work with Architecture Sans Frontiéres and theatre designer, Nomi Everall, to explore their ideas of what an Ark means to them. Nomi and Architecture Sans Frontiéres will then design the Ark to include the kinds of spaces that artists and children want to create within it to display their work. The result will be a spectacular installation incorporating reclaimed materials harvested from within 20 miles of Oxford.

The Ark will be installed by Oxford's premier events management organisation, INevents, in the centre of Oxford from 23 - 27 June 2010. It will be an object of beauty, with lighting and sound from clean, green power. It will be an exhibition and performance space where work produced by children in the 10 schools will be presented, along with other exciting events that will be programmed during this five day festival.

The Ark will be situated in a 'Sea of Troubles' - a visual representation of what children choose to leave behind, from asthma inhalers and air fresheners to values and behaviours that they feel have contributed to environmental problems, such as greed and over consumption.

Supporting activities are going to be held at the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of the History of Science and also at the Oxford Botanic Garden.

Other events and festival organisers have expressed an interest in hosting the Ark and replicating the project, so this may simply be the beginning of the Ark's journey.
