CIAO! Ark Project

image The Ark is a spectacular public art installation that showcased visual and performing arts created by 10 schools across Oxfordshire in response to the question – ‘If you were sailing away on an Ark to a low carbon future, what would you take with you and what would you leave behind?’.

This innovative project culminated in the arrival of the Ark on the front lawn of Oxford University Museum of Natural History in June 2010 as the centrepiece of a five-day arts and science celebration. The project explored ‘a positive vision of a low carbon future’ by bringing together artists and environmental scientists with innovators in the fields of technology, architecture and engineering to create a picture of a low carbon world that we can all aspire to.

During the Ark’s installation in this iconic setting at the centre of Oxford University’s science quarter, the five day celebration included workshops and performances as well as evening events such as a jazz concert co-presented with the Oxford Jazz Festival.

Visitors entering the Ark were able to view exhibits and performances after passing through a ‘Sea of Troubles’, where they found interactive representations of what people would choose to leave behind if they were sailing away to a low carbon future.
